Sixteen area restaurants and chefs have made it to the next round of the James Beard Awards, including Verjus in San Francisco as best new restaurant in the country.
The New York-based foundation announced the national finalists Monday for its 30th annual awards. Established in 1990, the James Beard Awards recognize culinary professionals for excellence and achievement in their fields who make America's food culture more delicious, diverse and sustainable.
The winners will be announced Sept. 25 in Chicago.
