Bay Area Population Revised Downward

A loss of a few percent of the population is expected with remote work.  If I could live in Tahoe and sell SF real estate, I would certainly do so.  And frankly, for us to balance the market we will have to lose plenty more.  Remember, we need to build 3 million more homes in California to satisfy housing demand.  The jobs are too good and the weather is too good.  We will not build that many homes in my lifetime, putting us in a perennial seller's market.

Having just been revised down, the estimated population of San Francisco proper decreased by 4,356 from July of 2021 (838,402) to July of 2022 (834,046) and is down by 36,084 or 4.1 percent since July of 2020, representing the largest percentage decline in population across all nine Bay Area counties.  READ MORE
