About the District

Marina/Pacific Heights is located on the northern shore of San Francisco, the Marina District lies directly on the bay and sits on top of the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition. Many of the buildings used in the world fair were demolished to make way for the neighborhood we now know as the Marina District. With its rich history, beautiful vintage homes, proximity to the Presidio National Park and the Golden Gate Bridge, this is one of the most recognizable districts of San Francisco.

The Marina neighborhood offers one of the most beautiful waterfront views in San Francisco. It is composed of elegant homes, unique architecture, and manicured parks and playgrounds. Together, residents are spoiled for choice on how to enjoy the outdoors. Don't pay a cent for a gym membership and instead run or walk the paved path alongside the bay and take advantage of Marina's lovely natural outdoor setting.

The Marina has a good mix of new and established homes. There are plenty of loft-style apartments, condos, mansions, and contemporary style family homes. However, potential residents should note that real estate property prices reflect the quality of the homes and location in this area.

Another distinct advantage of the neighborhood is it's access to dining and shopping options. There are also plenty of nighttime hot spots, with most of the bars, shops, and restaurants within walking distance.

Marina is a great place to live. It is popular among single and young professionals, as well as some of San Francisco's best-known entrepreneurs and old money.

Pacific Heights

Pacific Heights is a neighborhood that is the epitome of class and is located on the steep hillside of Russian Hill. It is beautiful and regal, which is why it is often used as a film shooting location in cinema. Its million-dollar views look amazing on screen and in person. From this neighborhood, you can see the city sprawling in every direction.

This neighborhood was built on a bedrock, so homes in this area are considered by some to be better resistant to earthquakes, which is probably the reason why some of the city's most enterprising residents originally moved to the area and started its development. Today, Pacific Heights is synonymous with the luxurious lifestyle and many of the city’s prominent citizens reside in this district. You can also find many of the consulate houses in this area.

Most homes in this neighborhood are built in Victorian and Edwardian styles – spacious and ornate architectural structures with very strong vintage elements. Many of these homes have been renovated, and most still retain their character and charm.

Pacific Heights is home to several top private schools like Sacred Heart Schools, Waldorf School, Hamlin School, Town School for Boys, Hillwood Academic Day School, San Francisco University High School, and the Drew School.

Another well-known area in Pacific Heights is Fillmore Street – the go-to spot for luxury shopping, destination restaurants, and popular cafes and bars.

Pacific Heights is truly a stunning neighborhood perfect for affluent residents looking for elegant, peaceful homes in an exclusive location with exceptional views.

Presidio Heights

Presidio Heights is located at the entrance of the Presidio, the vast forest-like park which holds a golf course, the Walt Disney Family Museum, and miles of hiking trails and wide green spaces. It is bordered on the east by Pacific Heights, on the west by Presidio Terrace, and on the south by Laurel Heights.

One look in this neighborhood and you’ll get a distinct impression that is a beautifully established community.

Homes in this area are large and sit on spacious lots with aged trees. Though many homes feature the Edwardian style, you will still find a variety of other architectural styles as well as condo and flats.

The neighborhood also enjoys easy access to restaurants and shops. California Street and Sacramento Street offer great choices for both dining and shopping needs. For those who want endless options, Clement Street is another exceptional choice.

If you've the financial wherewithal, Presidio Heights is a great place to live and enjoy green spaces and the local serenity as they establish themselves in San Francisco.

Cow Hollow

Cow Hollow is a rectangular strip neighborhood which sits on the southern end of the Marina District. It is located just below Russian Hill. In the mid-1800’s the neighborhood used to be a meadow that served as a pasture for many cows. In 1891, the cows disappeared as some of San Francisco’s most beautiful houses were built, and the name remained.

Cow Hollow is a quiet neighborhood with a very active commercial center. There are plenty of restaurants, cafes, bars, and retail stores on Union Street, a place strewn with young professionals hanging out with their friends. There is a small park on Green Street. If you want even more space, visit the Presidio which borders the west side of the neighborhood.

Homes in Cow Hollow are beautiful and feature a good mix of historic homes and contemporary single styles houses, condos, and apartments. Just like the other neighborhoods surrounding it, real estate prices in this area are exclusive.

There are two grade schools in Cow Hollow. One is St. Vincent de Paul and Sherman Elementary School.
